Automatic Tray Weight Grading Machine & Weight Sorter

The Meatech MT-TGS tray grading scale automatically weighs and sorts individual food products — whole poultry pieces, fresh meat cuts, seafood, fruit, and vegetables — into defined weight grade categories at up to 160 sorts per minute, replacing the manual weighing and sorting teams that create production bottlenecks and weight accuracy inconsistencies in food packing operations. Each product unit is placed into a tray (material box) on the conveyor; as the tray passes over the HBM weighing sensor, the weight signal is captured, compared to the preset grade boundaries in the control system, and the tray is directed to the correct grade output lane by an electromagnetic rejection mechanism that tilts the tray and deposits the product into the corresponding collection chute.

▌Product Description

Two platform series cover the full weight range of food processing applications. The Large Box Series (material box 330×150×80 mm or 380×220×80 mm) handles products from 50 g to 5,000 g with sorting accuracy of ±10 g — suited to whole chicken portions, pork cuts, fish portions, and fresh produce in the 100 g to 5 kg range. The Small Box Series (hopper 200×90×55 mm) handles products from 5 g to 500 g with sorting accuracy of ±1 g — suited to small seafood pieces, portions of processed meat, mushrooms, and other light products where fine grade separation is required.

The control system is built on Siemens and Schneider core components, with a multi-language touchscreen interface that stores multiple product formulas — allowing rapid grade boundary changes between product SKUs without re-entering parameters from scratch. Built-in report statistics generate real-time production data: total pieces sorted, pieces per grade, weight distribution histograms, and production rate — providing the in-process quality control data that food manufacturers need to manage declared-weight compliance and yield at the packing stage. The full SUS304 stainless steel main body withstands the cold, wet environment of chilled meat and poultry packing areas.

▌Solution Applications

Solution / Line

Role of MT-TGS

Fresh Meat Cutting & Packing

Weight grading of portioned fresh meat cuts before retail tray packing. Separates production into declared-weight bands — ensuring every tray pack is within the stated weight range for retail compliance. Replaces a team of manual weighers.

Whole poultry processing

Grades whole chicken carcasses into retail weight bands (e.g. 800–900 g, 900–1,000 g, 1,000–1,100 g) after chilling. Enables differentiated retail pricing by weight band — the primary quality control step in retail whole chicken supply.

Seafood processing

Grades individual fish, prawns, scallops, and seafood portions. The Small Box Series (0.1 g accuracy) is used for premium seafood products where fine weight grading commands retail price premiums.

Fresh Fruit Washing & Sorting

Final weight grading before retail tray or bag packing. Supplements optical sorting by directing optically-passed fruit to the correct declared weight pack format.

▌FAQ

Q:  How does the MT-TGS achieve 160 sorts per minute without weighing errors from vibration?

A:  The MT-TGS uses dynamic weighing anti-interference technology — the HBM weighing sensor's signal is processed by a digital filter that separates the static weight signal from the vibration noise generated by the conveyor belt and sorting mechanism. This allows accurate weighing of a moving product on a continuously running conveyor without stopping the product at the weighing point, achieving the 160 sorts per minute production rate with < ±10 g sorting error on the Large Box Series. The HBM sensor's high sampling rate (multiple readings per product pass) provides the signal averaging that makes the weight reading reliable at production speed.

Q:  How quickly can grade boundaries be changed between products?

A:  Grade boundary settings for each product SKU can be stored as a named formula in the MT-TGS control system. Changing from one product formula to another requires selecting the formula on the touchscreen — which takes less than one minute. No mechanical adjustment is needed when changing between products of similar size that use the same material box format. If the product requires a different material box size (switching from the 330×150×80 mm box to the 380×220×80 mm box), the box changeover takes approximately 10–15 minutes.

Q:  What report data does the MT-TGS generate for production management?

A:  The built-in report statistics system generates: total pieces processed, pieces per grade level, weight distribution histogram (showing how production splits across grade bands), production rate (pieces per hour), and reject count (pieces outside all grade ranges). These reports can be viewed on the touchscreen in real time and exported for production management systems. For declared-weight compliance management, the weight distribution data shows whether the overall production weight is trending high or low relative to the target weight bands — enabling adjustment before out-of-specification packs accumulate.
