The Meatech industrial retort sterilizer achieves commercial sterility for packaged food products through high-temperature, high-pressure treatment — killing bacterial spores and pathogenic microorganisms and extending product shelf life by six months or more without refrigeration. Sterilization is performed using saturated steam, hot water immersion, or spray atomisation at controlled temperatures of 121–135 °C within a sealed pressure vessel, with precision F0 value control ensuring every unit in the load meets international sterilization standards.

The precision back-pressure control system is a critical differentiating feature for manufacturers of gas-filled flexible packaging, soft pouches, and easy-open cans. As temperature rises and falls through the sterilization cycle, internal gas pressure in the package changes. Our back-pressure system automatically and continuously adjusts counter-pressure in the retort to match package internal pressure within ±0.01 MPa, preventing pouch swelling, seam failure, and can deformation throughout the cycle.

Double-layer retort designs recover hot water from the upper sterilization tank to preheat the lower tank's load — saving over 30 % energy per cycle. Indirect heating and cooling prevents secondary contamination. The PLC controller stores 100+ sterilization formulas, records temperature and pressure curves automatically, and produces GMP/HACCP audit-compliant process documentation at the end of each cycle.

Q:  What sterilization method should I choose for my packaging format?

A:  Hot water immersion is recommended for rigid glass jars and cans — the even water pressure prevents cracking. Spray sterilization is recommended for flexible pouches and soft packages — the fine water spray heats product quickly and uniformly without the physical pressure of full immersion. Direct steam is used for bulk steam sterilization where packaging is not a constraint. Our team can advise based on your specific packaging format.

Q:  How does the back-pressure system protect flexible packaging?

A:  As temperature rises during sterilization, gas inside a sealed flexible pouch expands and presses outward on the seams. Without counter-pressure in the retort, this can burst seals or cause permanent deformation. Our back-pressure system continuously measures retort pressure and automatically adjusts it to stay within ±0.01 MPa of the package internal pressure — preventing deformation throughout both the heating and cooling phases of the cycle.

Q:  How does the double-layer design save energy?

A:  In a double-layer retort, the hot water used in the upper retort cycle is transferred to the lower retort at the end of that cycle, pre-heating the next load before the steam or electric heating system takes over. This heat recovery step reduces the energy required to bring the lower retort to sterilization temperature, saving over 30 % per cycle compared to a single retort that discards all hot water after each use.

Q:  What documentation does the machine produce for GMP and HACCP compliance?

A:  The PLC system automatically records the complete temperature and pressure profile of every sterilization cycle and can print a hardcopy cycle record at the end of each run. This data log includes time-temperature and time-pressure curves, operator ID, recipe number, and cycle start/end times — forming the complete process documentation required for GMP/HACCP audit compliance.
