Drum Washing Machine

The Meatech MT-DW drum washing machine provides continuous mechanical washing of root vegetables, fruits, and food products — potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, citrus, ginger, taro, and similar produce — using a rotating stainless steel drum that tumbles product through a spray water environment, removing soil, surface debris, and organic contamination from the product surface without damaging the outer skin. The drum rotation lifts and drops product continuously, ensuring all surfaces are exposed to the spray wash water in every rotation cycle — a cleaning action that cannot be achieved by static soaking or single-pass belt spraying.

▌ Product Description

The GT8000 model (8,000×1,500×1,800 mm, 10 kW, 1,000 kg net weight) is designed as an industrial continuous-throughput machine — product enters at one end and exits at the other in a continuous flow, without batch loading or unloading stops. The drum and all water-contact surfaces are SUS304 stainless steel, and the design is customisable in length, drum diameter, spray pressure, and inclination angle to match the specific product type, throughput requirement, and washing standard of the facility. Applications span frozen food factories, fresh produce packing lines, snack food factories, restaurant equipment systems, and beverage ingredient washing.

Role of MT-DW

Potato, Onion & Garlic Washing, Grading & Packing

Primary mechanical washing stage. The MT-DW removes field soil and surface debris from potatoes and root vegetables before grading and retail packing. Drum format handles the irregular shapes of root vegetables without the product damage that brush washing can cause on thin-skinned varieties.

IQF Vegetable Lines

Pre-treatment washing before blanching. Removes surface soil and contamination from whole vegetables before they enter the cutting and blanching stages — a required step for any product processed to HACCP food safety standards.

Fresh produce packing lines

First-stage washing for any root or round produce before inspection, grading, and retail packing. Continuous throughput format matches the output rate of downstream grading and packing machines.

▌ FAQ

Q:  What is the difference between a drum washing machine and a brush washing machine?

A:  A drum washing machine (MT-DW) tumbles product through a rotating cylinder with spray water — using mechanical tumbling action and water pressure to remove soil. It is suited to robust root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, sweet potatoes, ginger) where the outer skin is strong enough to withstand tumbling contact with the drum wall. A brush washing machine (MT-BW) uses rotating brushes that make direct contact with the product surface — better for smooth-skinned products (citrus, apples, courgette) where surface polishing and even cleaning of irregular curved surfaces is required. For facilities processing mixed produce types, having both machines available provides flexibility.

Q:  Can the drum length and throughput be customised?

A:  Yes. The MT-DW is fully customisable in drum length, diameter, inclination angle, spray pressure and nozzle configuration. Longer drums increase residence time (more washing per unit of product flow); steeper inclination increases throughput speed. Meatech specifies the configuration from the product type, target throughput, and washing standard required. The MT-DW (8,000 mm) is the standard industrial model; shorter models (4,000–6,000 mm) are available for smaller operations.
