Metal Detector

The Meatech MT-MD conveyor metal detector provides 100% in-line inspection of food products for ferrous, non-ferrous, and stainless steel metal contamination — the mandatory food safety CCP inspection required by HACCP plans, BRC, IFS, SQF food safety standards, and the import requirements of EU, US, Japanese, and GCC export markets. Detection sensitivity meets the standard specifications for food grade metal detection: Fe >0.3 mm, non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminium) >1.0 mm, and stainless steel >1.2 mm — covering the metal contamination types most commonly encountered in food processing environments from worn equipment components, broken cutting tools, and packaging material fragments.

▌ Product Description

The Meatech MT-MD conveyor metal detector provides 100% in-line inspection of food products for ferrous, non-ferrous, and stainless steel metal contamination — the mandatory food safety CCP inspection required by HACCP plans, BRC, IFS, SQF food safety standards, and the import requirements of EU, US, Japanese, and GCC export markets. Detection sensitivity meets the standard specifications for food grade metal detection: Fe >0.3 mm, non-ferrous metals (copper, aluminium) >1.0 mm, and stainless steel >1.2 mm — covering the metal contamination types most commonly encountered in food processing environments from worn equipment components, broken cutting tools, and packaging material fragments.

The detection channel width is customisable from 200 mm to 2,000 mm — matching the specific product format and conveyor width of any point in the production line where metal detection is required. Belt speed is fixed at 28 m/min standard, with variable frequency speed control available for products requiring different inspection speeds. The Taiwan high-power motor delivers conveying capacity of 1–15 kg per linear metre, covering the full range from light packaged food products to bulk unpackaged meat and frozen food. IP65 waterproof rating allows daily high-pressure cleaning with the surrounding production environment.

▌Solution Applications

Solution / Line

Role of MT-MD

All processing lines — finished product

Mandatory final CCP inspection before packaging or dispatch. Every Meatech processing line includes MT-MD as a standard line component — positioned after forming, cooking, or packaging stage.

Solution 01 — Nuggets & Patty Line

After IQF freezing, before weighing and packaging. Fe >0.3mm sensitivity detects needle fragments from the forming machine and blade wear from the breading and coating stages.

Retail and export compliance

Required for EU, US, Japan, GCC export markets. 100-product type memory allows rapid product changeover with stored sensitivity settings — no re-calibration needed when switching between product SKUs.

▌FAQ

Q:  What does Fe >0.3mm mean in practical terms?

A:  It means the detector will reliably detect a sphere of ferrous metal (iron/steel) with a diameter of 0.3 mm or larger — approximately the size of a visible metal particle. For context, common metal contamination sources in food processing — needle fragments (0.5–1.5 mm), blade wear particles (0.3–1.0 mm), screw or bolt fragments — are all at or above this detection threshold. The >1.2 mm stainless steel sensitivity is the most challenging because stainless steel has a lower magnetic signature; 1.2 mm is the standard commercial specification for food-grade metal detectors and covers the stainless steel fragments (from knives, cutting surfaces, forming machine components) that are the most common metal contamination in meat processing.

Q:  The specifications say "customisable variable frequency speed control" — when is this needed?

A:  Variable belt speed is needed when the metal detector must be integrated into a production line where different product sizes or packaging formats require different inspection speeds — a small light product needs a higher belt speed to maintain throughput; a large heavy product may require a slower speed for stable transport through the detection zone. The standard 28 m/min fixed speed suits most general food processing applications. For lines processing multiple product types with significantly different size and weight, variable frequency speed control allows the belt speed to be matched to each product's inspection requirement.
