Brush Washing Machine

The Meatech MT-BW brush washing machine cleans fruit and vegetables using rotating nylon or food-grade bristle brushes that make direct surface contact with the product, combined with overhead spray water — providing thorough surface cleaning and polishing of round and smooth-skinned produce that the tumbling action of a drum washer cannot achieve on delicate or irregularly curved surfaces. Four models in the MT-BW series (MT-BW -1000 to MT-BW -1800) cover belt widths from 1,000 mm to 1,800 mm, matched to the throughput requirements of fresh produce packing lines from small-scale operations to large industrial facilities.

▌Product Description

The brush washing action is particularly effective for citrus (oranges, lemons, grapefruits), apples, pears, courgettes, cucumbers, and other smooth-skinned products where surface wax, pesticide residue, and surface micro-contamination need to be removed by mechanical brush contact combined with water — processes where drum tumbling alone is insufficient and where the product requires a polished, clean surface for premium retail presentation. The brush pressure is adjustable to match product skin sensitivity — firmer for robust citrus skin; lighter for soft-skinned stone fruit and berries.

▌Solution Applications

Solution / Line

Role of MT-BW

Fresh Fruit Washing, Sorting & Packing

Primary washing and surface polishing stage for fresh citrus, apples, and smooth-skinned fruit before optical sorting and retail packing. The brush action removes surface wax, field dust, and light pesticide residue — producing the clean, polished surface that supermarket retail buyers specify as a minimum quality standard for fresh fruit supply.

Potato, Onion & Garlic Washing

Used for onion outer skin cleaning where a gentler washing action than the drum washer is required. MT-BW-1000 or MT-BW-1200 suited to small and medium-scale fresh produce operations.

Pre-treatment for fresh cut vegetable lines

Brush washing of whole vegetables before cutting and packaging as fresh-cut salad ingredients — removing surface contamination before the cut exposes inner tissue.

▌FAQ

Q:  How is the correct model selected?

A:  Select the model based on required throughput and product type. The belt width determines how many product rows can pass simultaneously: MT-BW-1000 (1,000mm belt) suits operations handling up to approximately 2–3 t/h of citrus or apple; MT-BW-1800 (1,800mm belt) suits 5–8 t/h industrial fresh produce lines. For facilities processing both large citrus and small produce, the wider belt is recommended for flexibility. Power supply note: MT-BW-1000 is available in both 380V and 220V versions — the 220V option simplifies installation where 380V supply is not available at the washing station.

Q:  Can the brush pressure be adjusted for different produce types?

A:  Yes. The brush assembly pressure can be adjusted mechanically to match the surface sensitivity of different produce. Standard setting for citrus: medium-firm pressure for effective wax and residue removal. Reduced pressure for softer-skinned produce (courgette, cucumber, stone fruit) where excessive brush pressure would mark or bruise the skin. A quality check on the first batch of each new product type is recommended to verify the brush pressure setting before full production.
