Cold Room / Walk-In Freezer

The Meatech MT-CR cold room provides custom-built controlled-temperature storage from 10 tons to 100 tons capacity, covering the full temperature range from chilled storage (-10°C) to deep blast freezing (-40°C) within a single equipment series — with the specific temperature, insulation thickness, and refrigeration configuration determined by the application. Panel thickness options from 50 mm (light chilled storage) through 200 mm (deep blast freeze at -40°C) allow the insulation specification to be matched to the operating temperature and the ambient conditions at the installation site, which is critical for facilities in tropical and high-ambient-temperature locations where under-specified insulation dramatically increases refrigeration running cost.

▌Product Description

The Meatech MT-CR cold room provides custom-built controlled-temperature storage from 10 tons to 100 tons capacity, covering the full temperature range from chilled storage (-10°C) to deep blast freezing (-40°C) within a single equipment series — with the specific temperature, insulation thickness, and refrigeration configuration determined by the application. Compressor brands available include Bitzer, Copeland, and Emerson — the three globally recognised premium refrigeration compressor manufacturers, ensuring that spare parts, service technicians, and warranty support are available in virtually every export market where Meatech customers operate. Refrigerant options cover all currently approved commercial refrigerants (R22, R404A, R407, R449, R448, R507), with the specific refrigerant selected based on local regulations, the target operating temperature, and the facility's existing refrigeration infrastructure. Voltage options (220V/3P/60Hz, 380V/3P/50Hz, 440V/3P/60Hz) cover all major grid standards across Meatech's export markets.

▌Solution Applications

Solution / Line

Role of MT-CR

All processing lines — raw material

Chilled or frozen raw material holding before processing. Panel thickness and refrigeration specified to maintain raw material at the correct input temperature for downstream thawing and processing.

All processing lines — finished product holding

-18°C frozen product holding or 0–4°C chilled product holding before cold-chain dispatch. The 10–100 ton capacity range covers everything from a central kitchen dispatch buffer to an industrial IQF production accumulation warehouse.

IQF Lines

Frozen product accumulation at -18°C or below after IQF freezing. Panel thickness of 150–200 mm recommended for -18°C to -40°C operating temperature in tropical ambient conditions.

▌FAQ

Q:  How is panel thickness selected?

A:  Panel thickness is selected based on the operating temperature and the ambient temperature at the installation site. As a general guide: 75–100 mm panels for 0°C to +5°C chilled storage in temperate climates; 100–120 mm for chilled storage in tropical climates (35°C+ ambient); 150 mm for -18°C frozen storage in temperate climates; 200 mm for -18°C to -25°C frozen storage in tropical climates or for -40°C blast freeze rooms. Thicker panels have higher upfront cost but significantly lower refrigeration running cost over the life of the cold room — under-specified panels are the most common cause of high cold room energy bills in tropical markets. Meatech calculates the recommended panel thickness from the target operating temperature and the installation site ambient conditions at the design stage.

Q:  What information is needed for a cold room quotation?

A:  The key parameters are: (1) required storage capacity in tons or m³; (2) operating temperature range required; (3) site ambient temperature and humidity (critical for insulation and refrigeration sizing in tropical markets); (4) daily throughput — tonnes of product loaded/unloaded per day determines door opening frequency and heat gain; (5) product type; (6) local grid voltage and frequency; (7) any preference or requirement for specific refrigerant or compressor brand; and (8) any site constraints (building dimensions, floor load capacity, roof installation vs ground installation for condensing unit). Contact Meatech with these parameters for a cold room design drawing and quotation.
