How to Calculate and Control Injection Yield on a Brine Injector Machine
Injection yield percentage — the weight gain a product carries after brine injection, relative to its pre-injection weight — is the number that determines both product cost and compliance with declared net weight. Setting it correctly, and holding it steady across a production run, depends on three variables working together rather than any single control.
The Formula Behind Injection Yield
Target injection yield is calculated as the percentage weight increase needed after injection: a product entering at 100kg that needs to exit at 115kg is targeting a 15% injection yield. Reaching that number reliably requires balancing pump pressure, needle density and pattern, and belt speed — pump pressure alone does not set yield if belt speed varies, and vice versa.
The Three Variables That Actually Control Yield
● Pump pressure — determines how much brine is forced through each needle per stroke; higher pressure increases yield but raises the risk of tissue damage or brine pooling if pushed beyond what the product structure can absorb
● Needle density and pattern — more needles per unit area distribute a given yield target more evenly, reducing localized over-injection at any single point
● Belt speed — determines dwell time under the needle bank; slower belt speed allows more thorough injection per pass but reduces throughput, so this is the variable most often traded against production rate
Why Yield Drifts During a Production Run
The most common cause of yield drift over a shift is brine viscosity change as temperature rises in an uncooled brine tank, or as brine composition settles unevenly without recirculation — both of which change how much liquid the pump delivers per stroke even with pressure held constant. Monitoring finished product weight at intervals, not just trusting the pump's displayed pressure setting, is the practical way to catch this before an entire batch drifts outside target.
